BANGOR – Construction continues at Eastern Maine Medical Center (EMMC). A new addition to the hospital will allow patients and visitors a healing environment to make them feel more comfortable and at ease. It involves bringing the outdoors, indoors.
The trees were grown in Florida and have been transported to the lobby of the new Penobscot pavilion.
They were put in now so they have time to acclimate to Maine’s environment before the building opens.
“I think the plants will make everyone feel the way that it has made me feel,” said Helen McKinnon, president of support services. “With the browns, stone work and the granite that we have brought in, that it brings Maine inside.”
The purpose of the trees is to make patients feel as if they are entering a home rather than a hospital.
